Backhaul

In the context of WiFi extenders or mesh systems, backhaul refers to the connection between the main unit (the router) and other satellite units (the extenders). It is used to transfer data from the internet to the extender and back. It can be thought of as a main data highway connecting individual points of the network. This connection can be wireless, where in dual-band systems, the extender uses the same WiFi band for communication with the router and for connecting your devices, which can lead to a reduction in speed. Tri-band systems often feature a dedicated WiFi band that is used exclusively for this communication, thereby achieving higher stability and speed. An alternative is wired backhaul, where the router and extender are connected by an Ethernet cable, offering the most stable connection as it is not affected by wireless signal interference.
