A Bowens bayonet is a type of attachment used to connect accessories, such as softboxes, to a studio light. It is a standardized system that you can recognize by the three small pins located around the circumference of the circular adapter. The accessory snaps onto the light and locks securely with a slight twist. The name "Bowens" refers to the manufacturer who popularized this system, and it is one of the most widely used standards today. This makes it possible to combine lights and light modifiers from different manufacturers as long as both devices use that particular bayonet. In the case of a softbox, this bayonet is part of the so-called adapter ring to which the softbox structure itself is attached, and this ring is then attached directly to the flash or permanent light.
