Parking mode is a function of a car camera that allows recording even when the vehicle's engine is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition. For its operation, it requires a constant power supply, which is most often provided by a direct connection to the car battery using a special cable kit. This kit usually includes protection against complete battery discharge. Some cameras have their own small internal battery, but its endurance is limited to a short period. Recording activation in this mode occurs based on various triggers. One of these is the G-sensor, an accelerometer that detects a shake or impact to the vehicle, for instance during a parking collision. After such an event, the camera automatically saves the recording. Another method is motion detection, where the camera starts recording as soon as it detects movement in its field of view. Some models also offer time-lapse recording, where the camera captures images at longer intervals, for example one frame per second, thus creating a sped-up video. This saves space on the memory card and also power.
