A ceiling microphone is a device designed to pick up sound in a room, which is installed directly on the ceiling or suspended from it. Its main purpose is to provide clear and intelligible voice pickup of all participants, for example in meeting rooms, classrooms or conference rooms, without the obstruction of individual microphones on tables. Inside the microphone body there are often several smaller microphone capsules, which form a so-called array. This arrangement makes it possible to use "beamforming" technology, which translates as beamforming. This allows the microphone to create an invisible sound beam that focuses on the person speaking, whether they are sitting or moving around the room. In this way, it effectively isolates speech from environmental disturbances such as air conditioning noise, rustling papers or coughing from other people. Depending on the design, the microphone can be recessed into the ceiling for a minimalist look, attached to the ceiling surface or lowered below using a suspension system. Connection to another sound system is often made with a power cable, simplifying installation.
