DHCP test

The DHCP test verifies DHCP functionality on an active network port. DHCP, also known as the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, is a technology that automatically assigns unique IP addresses and other necessary settings to devices such as computers and printers on a network. This address is necessary so that the device can communicate with others on the network and the Internet. A cable tester with this feature acts as a new device when connected to a network outlet and actively requests network configuration. It attempts to connect to a DHCP server on the network and obtain from it the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway address for Internet access, and the addresses of DNS servers that resolve Internet domains to numeric IP addresses. If the test is successful and the tester receives all of this data, it means that the physical path from the socket to the active network element is fine, the port is configured correctly, and the DHCP service itself is functional. If the address cannot be obtained, this indicates a problem, such as a disabled port, a network configuration error, or a DHCP server failure.
