Direct LED, sometimes also referred to as Full-Array LED, is a backlighting technology where a grid of LEDs is placed behind the screen. These LEDs can be controlled in smaller groups (called local dimming or local dimming), allowing for better control of the brightness and contrast of the image. This leads to a greater dynamic range and better black level display. Direct LED-backlit TVs are generally thicker and more expensive, but provide better picture quality than Edge LED-backlit TVs.
