Filter capacity

The filter capacity is a figure that expresses the total amount of water that the filter cartridge or the entire device can reliably clean before it needs to be replaced or regenerated. This value is most often given in litres. Essentially, it is the total 'life' of the cartridge inside the filter, which has a limited ability to absorb or trap dirt, chemicals or micro-organisms. Once this capacity is filled, the filter material either becomes clogged with mechanical debris or runs out of its active components, which bind, for example, chlorine or heavy metals. From this point on, the filter no longer guarantees the removal of undesirable substances to the declared extent and water may pass through it virtually unpurified. The actual lifetime of the filter may also be affected by the level of contamination of the incoming water; if the water is more contaminated, the capacity may be exhausted faster than the manufacturer's claims.
