Lens Aperture

The lens luminosity indicates how much light the lens is capable of transmitting to the camera's image sensor. This value is expressed by the aperture number, which is denoted as "f/" followed by a number, such as f/1.7 or f/2.8. A lens with a low aperture number allows you to take better quality shots in lower light conditions, such as twilight or overcast skies, because the sensor gets enough light even with a faster shutter speed or lower ISO sensitivity, which reduces blur and image noise. The aperture number also affects the depth of field, the range of distances over which objects appear sharp. A lower aperture number produces a shallow depth of field with a blurred background.
