Razor

A razor is a classic shaving tool that consists of a single solid steel blade and a handle, referred to as a scabbard, into which the blade securely closes. Unlike the shavetta, which uses replaceable blades, the razor has its own permanent blade that must be maintained regularly. This maintenance involves two main activities. The first is a dressing on the leather belt, which is done before each shave and is used to straighten the microscopic blade edge. The second activity is sharpening on grinding stones, which is carried out less frequently and restores the geometry and basic sharpness of the blade. Blades are made from different types of steel, most commonly carbon steel, which holds the edge well, or stainless steel, which resists corrosion better. Shaving with a razor allows for a very smooth result, but requires mastery of proper technique and skill.
