Smart switch

A smart switch is a compromise between a managed switch (a network device that allows advanced network management and configuration, including monitoring and configuration of individual ports) and an unmanaged switch (a simpler, unmanaged device that automatically connects devices on the network without user intervention). Smart switches offer some of the features of managed switches, such as the ability to configure VLANs and QoS, but with more limited capabilities and a simpler interface. Smart switches are suitable for smaller companies or departments that require some advanced features but do not want to invest in fully managed switches.
