A plug adaptor for metering is a device that is inserted between an electrical socket and an appliance such as a TV, fridge or computer. Its main purpose is to monitor and display how much electricity the appliance is using. On the built-in display, the device shows the current power in watts (W), which is the instantaneous consumption, and also the total energy consumed over a certain period in kilowatt hours (kWh). The kilowatt-hour unit is important because it is the unit in which suppliers charge the price for electricity. Some models allow you to enter the price per kilowatt hour and can directly calculate and display the financial cost of running the connected equipment. This meter gives the user an overview of which appliances in the home are consuming the most, both when in full operation and in standby mode, sometimes called 'stand-by' mode. It is therefore a tool that provides specific data on the electricity consumption of individual appliances, helping to understand how the total energy costs of a household are generated.
