TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) is a type of LCD where each pixel is controlled by a transistor matrix. It offers a sharp display, high resolution and good price/performance ratio. Standard (transmissive) TFT relies on backlighting, so it has limited readability in direct sunlight and higher power consumption compared to reflective technologies. The quality of viewing angles depends on the panel used (TN, VA, IPS); modern IPS greatly improves colours and angles. In watches, navigation and cyclocomputers it is used for rich graphics and animations.
