The Apple iPhone Duo opens a brand new chapter in the Apple ecosystem, blurring the line between smartphone and tablet. The first foldable phone from the Cupertino giant is as compact as a passport when closed, but once unfolded, it transforms into a razor-thin productivity tool with a 7.6" display. The combination of a titanium body and the uncompromising A20 Pro chip makes it a versatile companion that handles work and play anywhere on the go. Read more
Foldable iPhone Duo – a compact smartphone with the capabilities of an iPad
The iPhone Duo stole the show at the "Surprise and Shine" keynote, where Apple officially entered the world of foldable devices after much speculation. This innovation solves the dilemma of choosing between a compact mobile phone and a larger productivity tool. If a standard smartphone screen isn't enough, but you don't want to carry a bag with a tablet or laptop, you will love the new Duo. It is particularly suited to busy professionals, managers, content creators, and demanding tech enthusiasts. What makes Apple's first foldable smartphone stand out?
The clever "book-style" design adapts perfectly to your pace. On the move, you can quickly handle calls and messages on the cover display, while in the comfort of your office or on a train, you can unfold the phone to get a generous space for reading or editing documents.
The wide inner display combined with iOS 27 takes everyday productivity to the next level. For the first time on an iPhone, you can comfortably run two full-sized apps side by side, work in two Safari browser windows at once, or drag and drop files between them.
Maximum smoothness is ensured by the 2nm A20 Pro chip, paired with a vapour chamber that maintains stable performance even under prolonged heavy loads or AI tasks. A robust polished Grade 5 titanium frame combined with durable Ceramic Shield 2 glass reliably protects against the rigours of daily use.
Apple iPhone Duo dazzles with polished titanium and a slim profile
Drawing inspiration from the iPad, the Apple iPhone Duo is close to a passport in size and shape when closed. Once unfolded, however, it transforms into an exceptionally thin productivity tool measuring 117.8×164.6mm with a profile of just 5.2mm, making it the thinnest iPhone in history. The body is built around polished Grade 5 titanium, complemented by a 3D-printed hinge cover. The hinge itself consists of over 100 miniature components, using magnets for secure closing and allowing the device to be used in various partially open positions. Despite the folding mechanism, it offers IP68 certification.
The extremely thin profile when unfolded required a change in biometric security. Instead of Face ID, the reliable Touch ID fingerprint reader makes a comeback, integrated directly into the side power button. For quick access in any situation, you can scan multiple fingers or conveniently unlock your iPhone Duo using a paired Apple Watch.
The iPhone Duo screens will immerse you
The main pride of the iPhone Duo is its dual screens with a 1:1.4 aspect ratio, which allows content to transition completely naturally when opening and closing. When closed, the external 5.4" OLED panel is used, which despite the compact body offers approximately 90% of the display area of the iPhone 18 Pro and is protected by Ceramic Shield 2 glass. Once unfolded, the 7.6" flexible Super Retina XDR display is revealed. The flexible screen is reinforced from below by a titanium plate, the glass layers are bonded with an adhesive that reduces bending stress, and the protective polymer offers up to 40% higher rigidity than commonly used materials.
The inner screen of the new iPhone Duo also features a matte nano-texture that effectively reduces glare and the visibility of the central crease, while both panels offer ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, Always-On functionality, and outdoor brightness reaching up to 3,000 nits.
High performance? A given for the iPhone Duo
The premium performance of the iPhone Duo is driven by the 2nm A20 Pro chipset with a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed for Apple Intelligence tasks. To handle high demands without overheating, Apple has integrated vapour chamber cooling, allowing the phone to deliver up to 35% higher sustained performance under long-term loads. Modern connectivity is handled by the N1 network chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, combined with the energy-efficient C2 mobile modem. To save internal space, the iPhone Duo relies exclusively on electronic eSIMs.
How does the iPhone Duo handle charging?
Due to its foldable design, the iPhone Duo houses two batteries managed by the system as a single unit. The phone can thus deliver up to 44 hours of video playback on the cover display, 31 hours on the inner display, or 24 hours of combined use on a single charge. Half of the battery capacity can be replenished in just 20 minutes with a USB-C adapter. Alternatively, you can opt for MagSafe charging, which delivers the same amount of power in half an hour.
The iPhone Duo also impresses with its fine-tuned camera setup
On the back of the iPhone Duo, we find a dual-camera system led by a main 48MP Fusion sensor, which offers sensor-shift OIS and 2× optical-quality zoom. It is accompanied by a 48MP ultra-wide camera, perfect for wide-angle landscapes and macro shots. Making its debut is a FaceTime camera integrated directly under the inner flexible display, keeping the screen area completely clean, while a 12MP Center Stage camera serves the cover screen.
The foldable design also brings a host of clever features. You can easily take high-quality selfies with the rear cameras using the cover screen preview, use the Duo Preview feature for the person being photographed, or shoot detailed 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 120fps. There is also a side Camera Control button for quick shooting and exposure adjustment.
iOS 27 gets the most out of the foldable iPhone Duo
From the ground up, the iOS 27 operating system has been tailored for the dual screens and flexible positions of the iPhone Duo. For the first time on an iPhone, Split View allows you to open two full-sized apps or Safari windows side by side, easily drag and drop content between them, and save your favourite pairings for quick launching. Controls, the vertical app dock, and the redesigned Dynamic Island have moved to the right edge, where they remain comfortably within thumb's reach. Thanks to the stable hinge, you can also prop the half-open phone on a table and watch video on the top half.
When watching videos, you can use the bottom half as well as the top, which can serve as a control panel or be used as a desk clock in StandBy mode, which now works even without a charger connected. The creative possibilities of the Duo model will be further expanded by the Apple Pencil with USB-C charging, with support arriving via a software update. Note-taking and sketching will work on both the inner and cover displays.
How does the iPhone Duo compare to other models in the range?
Are you considering upgrading to the new generation and wondering whether to choose the foldable iPhone Duo or stick with the classic flagship models? Although the newcomer shares a top-tier processor and select camera technologies with its siblings, they are very different devices in terms of screen concepts, overall dimensions, and use cases. Check out the comparison of key specifications in the table below and choose the model that best fits your workflow.
