Blue light protection

Blue light protection is a feature that limits the amount of this specific type of light reaching the eyes. Blue light is a natural component of sunlight, but it is also emitted in high amounts by digital displays such as monitors, phones, and screens built directly into smart glasses. Long-term exposure to this light, especially in the evening, can cause digital eye strain, which manifests as burning, dryness, or headaches. It can also disrupt the natural sleep cycle because it signals to the body that it is still daytime and limits the production of melatonin, a hormone needed for falling asleep. In smart glasses, this protection works in two main ways. Either the lenses have a special coating that physically filters part of the blue light coming from the surroundings, such as from a computer monitor, or there is a software feature that adjusts the color rendering of the glasses' built-in display. The image thus acquires a warmer, yellowish tint, reducing the amount of emitted blue light. This feature is often referred to as "night mode" or a "blue light filter." The goal of this feature is to reduce the strain on the eyes when working with digital screens and to promote healthier sleep habits when using glasses in the evening and nighttime hours.
