BVOH filament

BVOH filament is a specialized material for 3D printing that serves as a soluble support. Its main use is in 3D printers equipped with two or more print heads, so-called extruders. While one head prints the model itself from a conventional material such as PLA or PETG, the other head creates temporary support structures from BVOH. These supports are necessary for models with complex shapes, large overhangs or internal cavities that would collapse during printing without the support. A key feature of BVOH is what happens after the print is complete. The entire print is immersed in plain water where the BVOH support structure completely dissolves. This process leaves only a clean final model with no traces of the supports that would otherwise have to be mechanically removed, often resulting in surface damage. Compared to other known dissolvable PVA material, BVOH typically dissolves faster and has better adhesion to more types of printing materials. The material is strongly hygroscopic, which means that it absorbs airborne moisture. For this reason, it must be stored in a dry and airtight environment to prevent deterioration of its properties.
