CLICK'R locks, more accurately called "cases" in cycling terminology, are metal components that are mounted on the sole of special cycling shoes. They are part of a system of so-called foot pedals. This system allows the shoe to be firmly connected to the pedal, which is done by snapping the boot into a mechanism in the pedal. With this connection, the cyclist not only pushes the pedal downwards, but can also pedal upwards, which makes pedalling more efficient and engages more muscle groups. Shimano's CLICK'R system is specific in that it has a significantly weaker spring in the pedal mechanism. In practice, this means that significantly less force is required to snap your foot in and out of the pedal than with standard sport pedal systems. The foot is released by moving the heel sideways. The ease of release makes this system suitable for beginners, recreational cyclists or for city riding where frequent stopping and putting the foot on the ground is necessary. It provides the security of a firm connection to the pedal, but also reduces the fear of not being able to get the foot out in time.
