Cut protection is a special safety feature in work footwear designed for users of handheld chainsaws, such as forest workers or arborists. These shoes contain several layers of durable synthetic fibers, such as aramid fibers known by the trade name “Kevlar.” If the moving saw chain comes into contact with the shoe, it will catch these fibers, pull them out of the fabric, and wrap them around the saw’s drive sprocket. This immediately jams and stops the chain, thereby preventing or significantly reducing the risk of cuts.
