CVT transmission fluids are specialized liquids designed for automatic transmissions with continuously variable gear ratios. This type of transmission does not have conventional geared steps but utilizes a system of two cones connected by a steel belt or chain, allowing for a continuous change in the gear ratio. The main characteristic of these oils is their ability to create a specific level of friction between the metal parts, i.e., between the belt and the cones. This ensures power transmission without slippage and simultaneously protects components from excessive wear. Using the wrong oil, for example, a common automatic transmission fluid (ATF), can cause severe damage to the transmission, as such an oil lacks the necessary friction properties.
