A digital compass (magnetic sensor) is included in some bike computers and is used to determine the direction of travel by detecting the Earth's magnetic field. This sensor allows accurate navigation even in terrain where traditional GPS may have limited accuracy, such as in dense forest or between tall buildings. The magnetic sensor operates independently of the GPS signal and its accuracy depends on calibration and the elimination of magnetic interference from the environment. Cycling computers with a digital compass provide better orientation in the terrain, especially at low speeds or when stopped.
