Directional speakers are small sound transducers built directly into the temples of smart glasses. Their principle lies in the fact that they do not broadcast sound uniformly in all directions, but direct it specifically toward the wearer's ears. This creates a kind of private "sound bubble" around the user's head. Content such as music, phone calls, or navigation instructions is primarily heard by the wearer, while people in the vicinity hear very little or nothing at all. Compared to conventional headphones, which plug or cover the ears, this technology leaves the ear canals completely open. The user can thus listen to sound from the glasses while simultaneously remaining fully aware of their surroundings, such as traffic or conversations with other people. However, it should be noted that at higher volumes or in very quiet environments, people standing in the immediate vicinity may faintly hear the sound.
