An aerator is a small device, often in the form of a mesh, located at the end of a faucet spout. Its main task is the aeration of the water stream, which means it mixes air into the flowing water. Through this process, the water stream becomes more voluminous and softer, and its splashing upon impact with the washbasin or sink is reduced. For faucets with electric heating, the aerator has a crucial function in energy saving. By reducing the actual water flow without the user perceiving a significant drop in pressure, the heating element in the faucet has to heat a smaller volume of water. This leads to a reduction in electrical energy consumption required to reach the desired temperature. Thus, in addition to saving water, the aerator also ensures more efficient operation of the electric heating.
