Flash light

Flash lighting is a type of artificial lighting that, unlike continuous light, does not emit a continuous light flux but produces a single very short and intense light pulse, i.e. a "flash". The main use of this principle lies in its ability to effectively freeze motion. Thanks to the extremely short duration of the flash, even very fast events such as a moving athlete or a drop of water hitting the surface can be captured sharply. The high intensity of the light also allows it to overpower ambient lighting, which is often used when shooting outdoors in direct sunlight to illuminate shadows in the subject's face. There are portable system flashes that mount directly on the camera, and more powerful studio flashes that mount on tripods. The power of the light determines its maximum intensity and range. Control can be manual, where the photographer sets the power of the flash himself, or automatic using TTL mode, where the camera communicates with the flash and sets the power for him. Some models offer a high-speed sync function, known as HSS, which allows the flash to be used even with very short camera shutter speeds. The color temperature of the flash is usually calibrated to match daylight, ensuring natural color rendition.
