FT-77 Compatibility

This parameter determines whether a given towbar plug is fully compatible with the diagnostic tester known as the FT-77. The FT-77 tester is a specialized device used to quickly and reliably check the functionality of a vehicle's towbar wiring. The mechanic or user simply plugs this tester into a socket on the car and it then simulates the trailer being connected. Using the light indicators on the tester, it is then possible to verify that individual circuits such as brake lights, turn signals or marker lights are working correctly without having to physically connect the actual trailer. Therefore, if a product is marked as FT-77 compatible, it means that its wiring conforms to a standard that allows the use of this tester for easy diagnosis and functional verification.
