GNSS navigation technology

GNSS navigation technology, which stands for "Global Navigation Satellite System", allows the robotic lawnmower to determine its exact position in the garden using signals from satellites. These systems include, for example, the well-known American GPS or the European Galileo. In practice, this means that a mower equipped with this technology does not need a physical perimeter wire buried in the ground to define the working area. Instead, the user creates a virtual map of their garden on the mobile app, where they simply mark the mowing boundaries, restricted zones such as flower beds or ponds, and the paths they want the mower to follow. However, the signal from satellites alone would not be accurate enough and could deviate by several metres. Therefore, these systems often use a complementary technology called RTK. This involves a reference station located in the garden that receives the satellite signal, compares it with its fixed position and sends the mower corrective data. This refines the position accuracy to mere centimetres. As a result, the mower moves reliably within defined virtual boundaries and can mow systematically in parallel strips, which is more efficient than the random movement of older models.
