Gradient lenses in smart glasses refer to a type of lens that has a smooth transition in tint. Typically, they are darkest at the top, and their shade gradually lightens towards the bottom, where they can be completely clear. This design has a practical purpose. The darker upper part protects the eyes from direct sunlight from above, similar to classic sunglasses. Conversely, the lighter or completely transparent lower part allows an undisturbed and clear view of nearby objects, for example, when reading. In smart glasses, this feature is useful because the integrated display, which projects information into the user's field of vision, is often located specifically in the lower or side part of the lenses. Thanks to the gradient design, the lens does not darken the view of digital content, ensuring its good legibility, while simultaneously providing sun protection when looking ahead.
