A tripod microphone is a type of microphone designed for fixed placement, not for holding in the hand. Its main purpose is to provide a stable and unchanging position relative to the sound source, whether it is the human voice or a musical instrument. The designation "threaded" means that the microphone body or its supplied holder is equipped with an internal thread for screwing onto the microphone stand. A special cushioned mount, called a "spider", is often included to isolate the microphone from shocks and vibrations transmitted from the stand or floor. Thanks to the rigid mount, unwanted handling noise is eliminated and sound is recorded consistently because the distance between the microphone and the sound source does not change. This solution also frees up the hands for other activities, such as playing a musical instrument or controlling the equipment while broadcasting. The thread is standardized, allowing microphones and stands from different manufacturers to be combined. This type of microphone finds its application primarily in recording studios, podcast production, radio broadcasting, or capturing the sound of musical instruments, where accuracy and stability of placement are key.
