The Neewer brand mount is an adapter that is used to attach an external system flash to a studio tripod. This allows you to use the flash outside the camera body, giving you more control over the direction and quality of the light. On the top is the so-called "cold sled", which is a mount identical in shape to the one on the camera, but without the electronic contacts for firing the flash. The adapter is equipped with a hinge that allows the flash to be tilted up and down to direct the light precisely. Also included is a hole designed for inserting a photographic umbrella. The umbrella is used as a light modifier to soften the light from the flash and disperse it over a larger area. The bottom of the mount is adapted to fit onto a standard studio tripod pin and secures with a tightening screw.
