Octabox

Octabox is a light modifier that has the shape of an octagon. Its main purpose is to change a small and sharp light from a studio flash or a steady light to a large and soft light source. The light passing through the octabox is diffused, which leads to a reduction of hard shadows on the subject or person and creates smooth transitions between lit and shadowed areas. The specific octagonal shape is particularly advantageous when photographing portraits. In fact, it creates a natural-looking, almost spherical reflection in the subject's eyes that resembles the reflection of the sun or a window. This glare is often perceived as more aesthetically pleasing than the glare from square or rectangular softboxes. Inside, the octabox has a silver reflective surface to maximize light output, and on the front side it has one or more diffusion screens to soften the light. It connects to the light itself with an adapter, referred to as a "bayonet", which varies depending on the light manufacturer.
