Coverlocks are sewing machines that typically sew fabric together and simultaneously trim its edge using a knife. Some models allow this trimming knife to be easily deactivated or turned off. The machine then does not trim the fabric during sewing and only creates a stitch. This function is primarily used for sewing the so-called coverstitch, also known as a “lingerie stitch”. It serves, for example, for decorative finishing of hems on T-shirts or hoodies in the middle of the fabric, where there is no edge to trim.
