PEI (smooth) pad

A PEI pad is a printing surface used in 3D printers whose name stands for polyetherimide material. The main function of this pad is to ensure that the first layer of the printed object adheres well to the printing table. This phenomenon is called adhesion and is key to the successful start of printing. The specification "smooth" means that the surface of this pad is completely flat and free of any texture. As a direct result, the underside of the printed model will also be perfectly smooth, often with a glossy appearance. The pad is usually heated along with the printing plate, which increases its adhesion to the molten plastic called filament. Once the print is finished and the backing has cooled, the adhesion of the material is reduced, making it easier to remove the finished print. This type of surface works well with many common filaments such as PLA, PETG or ABS, and often eliminates the need to use additional adhesives to ensure the first layer adheres.
