PETG filament

PETG filament is a printing filament for 3D printers, which is one of the most frequently used materials. Its base is PET plastic, known for example from the production of beverage bottles, which is modified for 3D printing by the addition of glycol. This modification improves its properties, especially strength and durability. PETG combines some of the advantages of two other common materials, PLA and ABS. It offers higher strength, flexibility and temperature resistance than PLA, while its printing is easier than ABS because it curls less and does not smell as much when melted. PETG prints are tough, less brittle and resist water and chemicals well. Successful printing requires the use of a heated print pad to ensure good adhesion of the first layer. During printing, it can be susceptible to so-called "stringing", which is the formation of thin plastic filaments between parts of the model. Its durability and strength make it suitable for the production of functional and mechanical parts such as various brackets, covers or components that are to be stressed. Although the material itself is often described as suitable for food contact, caution is required with finished prints as bacteria can breed in the gaps between the layers.
