Piezo ignition is an integrated system used to ignite the flame of an outdoor stove without the need for matches or a lighter. It works on the principle of the so-called piezoelectric effect. Pressing the button causes a mechanical impact on a special crystal. This pressure creates an electrical voltage that generates a spark between two electrodes located near the burner. The spark then ignites the escaping gas. The user simply turns on the gas and presses the button to ignite it. This is a convenient way to light a fire, but the mechanism can be prone to damage or failure in very humid or freezing conditions. For this reason, it is recommended to always carry a backup fire-starting source, such as matches or a fire starter.
