A plate light is a flat light source that is used in photography and video shooting. Its main characteristic is a large, uniform surface that is made up of many small LEDs. This design produces so-called "soft light". This means that the light is evenly diffused in the scene and does not form harsh, hard shadows, similar to light under overcast skies. This makes it suitable for lighting people, as it softens skin texture and looks natural, or for lighting products without distracting glare. The intensity of the light can usually be infinitely controlled, i.e. how strong it shines. The ability to change the colour temperature of the light is also a common feature. This determines whether the light is warmer orange or cooler with a blue tinge. This feature, sometimes referred to as "bi-color", allows you to match the light to the ambient lighting or create a specific mood for the shot. The light is often equipped with a diffusion layer, which is a milky cover that softens and diffuses the light even further. With both battery and mains power options, these lights are usable in the studio and in the field.
