Standards EN 60950

EN 60950 is a European technical standard that specifies the requirements for the safety of information technology equipment. In the context of a magnetic card reader, this means that the product has been designed, manufactured and tested to be physically safe for the operator and customers. The standard does not deal with data security, but only with protection against risks such as electric shock, fire or mechanical injury. It ensures, for example, that the equipment has sufficient electrical insulation, that its surface does not overheat to dangerous temperatures during operation and that its design does not contain sharp edges. Compliance with this standard is therefore confirmation by the manufacturer that the reader is a safe electrical appliance when used properly. The abbreviation "EN" indicates that it is a European standard valid in the Member States of the European Union.
