TIA/EIA-568 standard

The TIA/EIA-568 standard is a set of technical rules for the installation and testing of data cables used in computer networks. It was created by the TIA, the Telecommunications Industry Association, and the EIA, formerly the Electronic Industries Alliance. This standard specifies how the individual coloured conductors in twisted-pair network cables, which are most commonly terminated with an RJ-45 connector, should be wired. The standard defines two main wiring schemes, known as T568A and T568B. Both schemes are functionally equivalent and differ only in the swapping of the green and orange wire pairs. For the straight cable to work properly, the same wiring standard must be used at both ends. In addition to the wire sequence itself, the TIA/EIA-568 standard also specifies performance requirements for different wiring categories such as Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 6A. These requirements relate, for example, to the maximum allowable cable length, signal attenuation, which is the weakening of the signal with increasing distance, or crosstalk. Crosstalk, technically crosstalk, is unwanted interference where the signal from one pair of wires affects the signal in an adjacent pair. When you select TIA/EIA-568 measurements on a cable tester, the instrument not only verifies the correct wire order, but also measures all the key electrical properties of the cable. The result is then a rating of "PASS" for Pass or "FAIL" for Fail, which determines whether the cabling meets the requirements of the standard and is therefore capable of reliably transmitting data.
