UVB protection means that eyeglass lenses contain a special filter that prevents type B ultraviolet radiation from reaching the eyes. This radiation is an invisible component of sunlight and, with long-term exposure, can damage sensitive eye tissues such as the cornea or the lens. The function of the filter consists of absorbing or reflecting these harmful rays. The level of protection does not depend on the darkness of the lenses—even completely clear lenses can provide full protection if they are equipped with this technology. Protection is often labeled as "UV400," which guarantees the blocking of all UV radiation with a wavelength of up to 400 nanometers, and thus includes protection against both the UVA and UVB spectrum.
