DAB tuner

The DAB Tuner parameter of HiFi equipment indicates that it is capable of receiving digital radio broadcasts. The abbreviation DAB stands for "Digital Audio Broadcasting", which is the modern successor to the classic analogue broadcasts we know from, for example, the FM band. Unlike the analogue signal, which can suffer from noise and crackling when received poorly, digital transmission provides clear sound without interference. Tuning stations is also easier. Instead of searching for a specific frequency, the tuner automatically scans the available stations and displays them in a clear list by name. The user then simply selects the desired station. In addition, digital broadcasting allows additional text information to be transmitted, so that the tuner display can show, for example, the title of the song currently playing, the name of the artist or the current news. These days, you'll most often see an enhanced version of DAB+, which uses more efficient coding for even higher sound quality or a greater number of stations in the same broadcast space. A DAB+-enabled device can also receive the older DAB format.
