LP Record Fourteen years ago, in 2007, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant teamed up to record the album "Raising Sand". A collection of old folk songs and new rock tracks, the album reached number two in the UK and the US and won Album of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards. In 2021, the British rock singer and Led Zeppelin frontman and the American bluegrass country icon are back with a follow-up. "Raise The Roof" is the title of their second duets album. Once again, Krauss and Plant have put their own spin on songs by other, very different artists.
LP Record With this album, Oldfield followed up his brilliant debut, "Tubular Bells", which has long since made its mark on music history since its release on 25.5.1973. Listening to the new album, the parallels and differences with the original "Tubular Bells" are immediately clear. The structure of the music is partly identical. The "Master of Ceremonies", the "Monster Roar", and the "Western Saloon" at the end are all present once again. The compositions more or less correspond to the 'spirit' of the original in tempo and timbre, but the melodies are completely new. As a result, "Tubular Bells II" feels very familiar on one hand, yet quite different on the other. Any concern that Mike Oldfield had simply created a plagiarism of his own work is impressively dispelled.
LP Record Tubular Bells III is the eighteenth album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1998. It follows Oldfield's albums Tubular Bells from 1973 and Tubular Bells II from 1992, and was released to mark the 25th anniversary of the original Tubular Bells album. Although sceptics and critics at the time naturally thought that Mike Oldfield was just going to keep re-releasing his first album "Tubular Bells" due to a lack of new ideas, this third instalment offers more than just good entertainment. While the melody and structure of Oldfield's work draw from his good old classics (and I'm sure for good reason), it still finds itself very much in the "here and now", presented in a much more modern package.
