I use it to share a keyboard and mouse on two computers. Never mind that one machine is a laptop with Windows 10 and the other is a desktop with Ubuntu 16.04. It switches them without a problem.
I think the separation of the connector box from the switch button is great - you have fewer cables on your desk.
