The taste is about what I would expect. Not very good, but that's coming from something that's mostly just water and black tea in a much higher concentration than the usual cup of black tea.
Of course, it can be flavored, but the taste is the cheaper thing here with this product.
For someone who cares more about taste, one of the other types of samurai shotu would be more suitable.
