To put it on the table when I work on the NB is enough. It doesn't light up, doesn't flash (kudos) and is quiet even at full speed. It cools enough to keep the "vacuum cleaner" fans in a gaming laptop from kicking in when editing video.
It was necessary to replace the supplied USB cable because it had too much resistance and the fan spun slower.
I am under no illusions about the durability of USB connectors either.
Otherwise, the workmanship is quite nice.
The pad is also very light, so it can be carried around with the NB in a backpack without the weight being noticeable
