I hope that the drives will still be as reliable as ever, I'm just sorry that WD started to add firmware that is not compatible with the previous version S. M. A. R. T. I hope there's not some hidden villain in there.
NAS drive
The 8TB WD Red Pro, which I have had for a couple of years now, is problem-free

Unfortunately, the new 8TB Red Pro WD80005FFBX series got a new S. M. A. R. Firmware that my decade-old NAS no longer understands. It is not possible to perform a preventive check of the state of the S disk. M. A. R. T.

I ordered, upon delivery it had a cut or puncture in the anti-static packaging. The BIOS only detects the model, but does not learn more about it. In Linux, the kernel reports IDENTIFY_FAILED which is either a communication error (cable) or a HW failure. Since I connected another WD RED 8TB to the same cable and it worked without any problems, the fault would be in the HW - possibly a blocked platter after a crash. I put in a claim with Alza, and instead of settling the claim it was rejected, with the proviso that I should pass it on to an authorised repairer. Subsequently, the order was cancelled and the disc returned to Alza. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes on sale again..: -( The packaging is lousy, only in bubble wrap, and it's possible that it fell out of the carrier during shipping. As the disc is not a tea box, they should package and handle it much better. Based on the discussion, it's not a coincidence.
I don't know.
It's not working.

Looks like he should be good from the tests.
I bought (elsewhere) 4 pieces and one was defective from the start. So I don't trust him that much in terms of reliability anymore.

I run 5x Seagate IronWolf PRO 4TB and 1x WD Red Pro 4TB. I wanted to try just a different drive and I'm not too excited about it, or I didn't give it a look at the user reviews below. I also bought the Alza product "Instant Replacement Guarantee" for ~400 CZK, which guarantees a replacement within 48 h in case of a claim. Nothing happened for 4 days after the complaint, so I wrote to them. The answer was that they had to technically verify the disk first. So we exchanged a few messages and on day 6 my new disk arrived (which is working so far). For me, disappointment from WD and from Alza (I know that 6 days replacement is great, but if they offer a product with a 48 h guarantee, they should replace it and then think if it makes sense for disks)
The very first piece I received was non-functional from the factory. I just booted up, ran the smartctl test, which didn't run. That's all we could do with him.
Noisy during enrollment.
The "immediate replacement guarantee" doesn't quite work here.

I've been using WD Red Pro drives on a very busy NAS for a number of years and have been completely satisfied. I have them in RAID 5, but so far I have not had to replace a disk due to failure.

A robust, high-performance HDD.
Rating, stamina is top tier.
Unfortunately I had to return it because after plugging it in the NAS server turned into a rocket drive - extreme hum even without writing, extremely loud writing, server temperature 5-10C higher and vibrations.
The final choice is the WD Red Plus, which although rated lower, are not audible even when writing and their temperature is significantly lower.
