Scales

The scales are a specific construction of the chute that can be found on some cross-country skis. This construction is characterized by its scale-like pattern, which is located in the middle of the ski, in the area used for climbing in classic cross-country skiing. The aim of the scales is to give the skis better climbing ability without the need for climbing waxes. The scales work on the principle of providing resistance when moving backwards, preventing the skis from sliding backwards when climbing, while allowing a relatively smooth glide when moving forwards.
