Double-layer softbox

A dual layer softbox is a light modifier that is applied to a studio flash or permanent light. Its purpose is to transform a small and hard light source into a large, soft and diffused area. It consists of two separate diffusion substances. The first, smaller substance is placed inside the softbox, closer to the light source. Its purpose is to initially break up and diffuse the light, thus avoiding an overly bright centre, the so-called 'hot spot'. This already partially softened light then falls onto a second, outer and larger diffusion fabric, which further diffuses and softens it. Thanks to this double process, the resulting light is very uniform over the entire surface of the softbox and creates subtle shadows with smooth transitions on the illuminated object or person. The inner layer can often be removed to achieve a slightly different light character.
