Circular construction

The circular design of a photo light indicates a light source that is ring-shaped. In the middle of this circle is a hole through which the lens of a camera or camcorder is pushed. This allows the subject to be illuminated directly from the axis of the lens, resulting in even illumination without distracting shadows. This type of light is often used in portrait photography, where it creates a characteristic circular flare in the eyes. It also finds its application in macro photography, which is the shooting of very small close-ups, because it can illuminate the subject without the shadows that the camera itself would otherwise cast. Similarly, it is used in video shooting, especially for close-ups of faces.
