Solar charging is a wallbox function that allows charging an electric vehicle with energy produced by its own photovoltaic power plant, often referred to as a PV system. A wallbox with this function can communicate with the photovoltaic power plant's system and determine how much electrical energy the plant is currently producing and how much of it the household is consuming. If the photovoltaic system produces more energy than the house consumes, so-called "surplus energy" occurs. The wallbox utilizes this surplus energy and redirects it to the electric vehicle's battery instead of it flowing into the public distribution grid. Thanks to this, the car owner charges at minimal cost, as they use their own self-produced and unconsumed electricity. The charging speed in this mode can vary depending on the current sunlight and the house's energy consumption.
