CCID Standards

The CCID standard, which stands for the English term "Chip Card Interface Device", refers to a protocol for communication between a smart card reader and a computer. Its main purpose is to unify the way operating systems such as Windows, macOS or Linux recognize and control the reader. Thanks to this standard, the reader works on a plug-and-play basis, similar to a regular USB mouse or keyboard. In most cases, the user does not need to install any specific drivers from the reader manufacturer, as the basic support is already built right into the operating system. For POS systems, this means that installation is greatly simplified and wide compatibility is ensured.
