Pastelky se nabízejí v širokém cenovém rozpětí, od dvaceti korun po desítky tisíc za balení. Samozřejmě, existuje mnoho faktorů, které cenu ovlivňují. Proslulé značky jako švýcarská Caran D'Ache, anglický Derwent nebo německý Faber-Castell si nechávají připlatit za svou reputaci a jméno. To však není jediný rozdíl. Rozhodující je, k čemu jsou pastelky určeny a jaké mají vlastnosti.
Zjednodušeně řečeno, existují tři hlavní kategorie pastelek. První skupinu tvoří školní pastelky nebo pastelky pro nejmenší. Tyto pastelky jsou navrženy tak, aby byly odolné vůči pádu, tlaku a obecně špatnému zacházení. Jejich pigmentační kvality nejsou tak podstatné. Typicky mají tvrdší tuhu, která uvolňuje méně pigmentu. Jsou založené na olejové (voděodolné) bázi, což znamená, že je nelze rozpouštět vodou. Důraz je kladen na bezpečnost a netoxicitu, aby dítě nemohlo napáchat větší škody.
Umělecké pastelky: kvalita pigmentu a možnosti technik
Střední kategorii představují základní umělecké pastelky, které jsou zcela odlišné od těch školních. Jsou zaměřeny na optimální pigmentaci kvalitním barvivem. K dostání jsou ve dvou verzích – klasické olejové pastelky a voděrozpustné (akvarelové) pastelky. Tyto pastelky nabízejí podstatně lepší pigmentaci a mají měkčí tuhy, což umožňuje snadno regulovat intenzitu barvy přítlakem. S těmito pastelkami lze vytvářet velmi kvalitní kresby, což je ideální pro poloprofesionální využití.
Špičkové umělecké pastelky: světlo a trvanlivost
Nejvyšší kategorii tvoří špičkové umělecké pastelky, které jsou časem ověřené a poskytují konzistentní výsledky. Umělci je znají a používají je pro své profesionální práce, protože nabízejí ověřené barevné škály a pigmenty. Navíc mají jednu důležitou vlastnost – světlostálost, tedy odolnost vůči slunečnímu světlu. Díla vytvořená těmito pastelkami mohou být vystavována a prodávána po generace, aniž by došlo k výrazným změnám barevnosti.
Pastelky nejsou jen pro děti
Ačkoli pastelky bývají často spojovány s dětským kreslením, existují i dospělé pastelky v cenových kategoriích, které by vám stačily na koupi slušného mobilu. Pastelky jsou nástrojem, který vám umožňuje nanášet pigment s velkou přesností a pracovat s širokou škálou technik, jež mohou vést až k fotorealistickým výsledkům. To není nutné, ale rozhodně je to možné!
Zajímavost: Tužky versus pastelky
Zajímavé je, že zatímco čeština rozlišuje „tužky“ a „pastelky“, v angličtině se používají pojmy „pencil“ a „colored pencil“ (barevná tužka). Rozdíly ve stavbě mohou být opravdu malé – například existují barevné mikrotuhy pro mikrotužky, které místo klasického grafitu používají barevnou tuhu. Zatímco u nás pastelky mají obvykle průměr tuhy 3,8 mm, u „verzatilek“ a mikrotužek můžete najít i tuhy s průměrem 2 mm nebo 0,5 mm, které jsou ideální pro detailní kreslení a konturování.
