Electronics recycling law

On 13.8.2005 a new amendment of Act No. 185/2001 Coll. about waste went into effect. According to this law, every producer and importer of electronic devices, which are listed in an appendix of the law, is bound to finance, ensure and participate in electronic waste collection and recycling.

Active regulations were not yet published but their working version can be found on the Ministry of the Environment's website.

The realisation of this law in real-life means that producers/distributors will increase the price of electronics over the so-called electronic waste recycling fee (see IT price list and AV price list). This fee is transfered to the end user. For the higher price the end user gets 2 advantages: First: a little higher probability that the enviroment will be spared illegal garbage dumps and second: the end user doesn’t have to worry about what to do with old electronic devices (computers, televisions, refrigerators, etc.). Every county is obliged to provide a collection point for electronic waste. You can find an interactive list of collection points here. Your electronic waste will be accepted and ecologically disposed of at electronics recycling centers for "free" (you have already paid for the disposal and recycling of the product when you bought it).

As a domestic Seller we abide by the above mentioned by checking if our supplier is a member of this system and consecutively transfering the electronic waste recycling fee on to consumers. The accounting of the electronic waste recycling fee is introduced gradually depending on when the products were imported. The electronic waste recycling fee is not charged on goods imported before 1.9.2005.

The electronic waste recycling fee of REMA system is already included in the prices of our products imported after 1. 9. 2005.
