Bosch was founded in Stuttgart in 1886 by Robert Bosch as a workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering. At first, the company focussed mainly on the production of low-voltage magnetos for gas motors. Over time, however, the company's product list expanded to include:

  • Windscreen wipers (1926)
  • Injection pumps (1927),
  • Power drills (1932)
  • Car radios (1932)
  • Oxygen sensors (1976)
  • ABS systems (1978);
  • Electronic motor controllers (1979);
  • and many other devices.

A true pioneer

During its history, Bosch has achieved many world firsts, the best known being the first anti-lock braking system (ABS). Bosch is also one of the world's leading manufacturers of cordless screwdrivers with lithium-ion technology. The first model was the IXO cordless screwdriver, which in 2004 was the best-selling tool in Europe.
